The FireBus 1756-FPI-1002 Fire Protection Interface (FPI) module resides in the ControlLogix chassis and communicates to the programmable controller directly over the backplane.  Connected by a redundant pair of cables with RJ-45 style connections is it's companion board, the 7254-MTP-1002 Main Termination Panel (MTP) which mounts nearby on a DIN rail and provides mechanical termination points for other components of the system.

Together the FPI & MTP give the ControlLogix programmable controller access to a pair of addressable "2-wire" smoke detection loops which can be configured, monitored and controlled directly by the ControlLogix programmable controller.  In addition, FireBus Intelligent Termination Panels (ITPs) supervise the field wiring of standard ControlLogix input/output modules ensuring compliance with the fire codes.

The ITPs are color coded to match the ControlLogix I/O module they are compatible with and connect to it with a color coded prefabricated cable.  Field wiring lands on the ITP terminals and the signal passes unchanged directly to the I/O module.  The ITP supervises the field wiring and will use its local 2x16 character display to show each channels state and diagnostic information.
