Role: Fire Protection Engineeer

The successful candidate for this position will work on one or more projects as a Lead Fire Protection Engineer.

Main Accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Develop a fire protection design criteria and project execution plan for the facility based on NFPA,API,ISO guidelines, insurance company requirements, other industry codes and practices and the owner's requirements. 
  • After approval of this criteria and plan the engineer is responsible for the design and procurement of the fire protection systems specified including fire water pumps, underground fire water distribution systems, sprinkler systems, deluge systems, foam systems and fire and gas detection and alarm systems. 
  • The fire protection engineer will review the work of the other discipline engineers on the project for conformance to fire protection requirements. These reviews might include fire wall penetrations, extent and type of fireproofing, process equipment spacing and facility access and egress. 
  • The fire protection engineer is also responsible for defining the extent of hazardous electrical areas based on the recommendations of NFPA, API and ISO. 
  • The fire protection engineer will also be expected to estimate engineering man-hours and total installed cost of fire protection facilities for incorporation in bids prepared for prospective work.

Experience and skills required:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in industrial fire protection engineering of refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants, onshore & offshore oil and gas production facilities, etc. 
  • A strong working knowledge of applicable NFPA, API, ISO and other industry codes and standards. 

Qualifications and additional attributes required:

  • A licensed professional engineer preferred but not required for this position.
  • Spanish language preferred but not required for this position
